SOPAKCO MRE

The Sopakco MRE is a commercial version with all the G.I. military components inside each complete meal. MRE manufacturers were originally formed to supply only the US Military in WWII. Soon after the war, Commercial Divisions were developed to supply the general public. The Federal government imposed a sale ban on MREs issued to military personnel. Please be aware, there are government issued MREs for sale, illegally. Buy only the commercial grade.

The commercial MREs, contains less salt compared to the G.I. version. Military dieticians believed the higher sodium content in our body will promote better water retention which was necessary for our soldiers in combat.

Each MRE case contains 12 meals, individually packed in heavy plastic film and aluminum foil for maximum storage versatility. One MRE complete meal can easily fit inside a backpack. Derived from the military's request to lighten the weight of the rations, the film packaging replaced the tin cans. The packaging is durable and sturdy. The MRE meal can be heated without removing from the packaging. Although the meal can be eaten right out of the bag, several ways to heat your meal may include setting the bag under the sun or placing the unopened bag in warm water. The cases of MREs do not contain FRH (Flameless Ration Heaters). FRH are sold separately.

Note: The 6 menu types in each case changes frequently. Depending upon the manufacturer's production batch. Each batch may consist thousands of meals. If you're ordering 2 or more cases, the chances are, you'll receive identical contents per case.

Long Term Shelf-Life
Storage temperatures will highly affect the life of the MREs. Temperatures higher than 85F (85 degrees Fahrenheit) may shorten the shelf-life of MRE-type food products. Cooler temperatures will help extend the shelf-life. At 60F (60 degrees Fahrenheit), the MRE may be good for 10+ years. Extreme temperatures (Hot or Freezing) should be avoided, to prevent damage to the packaging film. An estimated shelf-life figure of 3-5 years, is typical for MRE-type food products. MREs are moist food unlike dehydrated or freeze dried foods that require water to be prepared and eaten.
