Optics is an integral part of surveillance. Whether used to keep a close watch for the safety of others or for security checks on your perimeter. One can make observations from a safe distance.

Binoculars are classified by their magnifying capability and their power of collecting light, for instance 7 X 35 or 10 X 50. The first number represents the magnification. The second number is the diameter of the objective lens (opposite end of the eye piece), measured in millimeters (mm). As common knowledge, the higher the last number, the heavier the binoculars weigh.

Focusing is usually done by means of a thumbscrew and capable of independent adjustments for each eye. Thus, magnifying distant objects.
